Telling stories of European heritage

For the third year in a row, ICF Mostra helps award heritage sites which symbolise European ideals, values, history and integration, by organising the European Heritage Label (EHL) on behalf of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Education and Culture (DG EAC). Through our work, we promote European heritage so that EU citizens better understand their shared history. We also tie the threads of history to the present: focusing on connecting citizens to the EU institutions and one another.

ICF Mostra organised the EHL ceremony on 13 April, at the Solvay Library, in Brussels. Attendees included Commissioner Tibor Navracsics, members of the European Parliament and the site managers of the EHL network. Nine European Heritage sites were awarded the European Heritage Label, increasing the list to 29 sites since 2013. The awards ceremony was part of a larger, three-day workshop we helped coordinate.

Each site is awarded recognition plaques and a three-minute clip featuring the historic context and educational activities currently operating, both designed by ICF Mostra. Video production is carefully coordinated beforehand to find the most unique aspects of each place and prep the site manager to tell the story of each location. An electronic newsletter with all videos is tailored to each winner and provided to promote their achievement among their network. We also developed a quiz for participants to test their knowledge of European heritage.

EHL sites have been carefully selected for their symbolic importance, the role they have played in European history, and the current activities on offer that bring European citizens closer together. Bringing a European narrative to life and providing access to each site is reflected in the range of activities we do for the EHL. For example, we continuously develop the network of European Heritage sites, have produced a total of 29 videos and other materials for each site, and have organised the last three awards ceremonies.

We are proud to show off European sites of historical importance with these beautiful video clips. Click on the image below to discover the full EHL list and click here to watch the videos.
