Since 1992 the Single market has affected the daily lives of Europeans by providing free movement of workers, goods, services and capital. Obstacles and barriers remain however, and as the EU works to remove them, they wanted to hear from the public and stakeholders on what should be done. This is why the Single Market Month, held between 23 September – 23 October 2013, and composed of online debates in 24 languages, has the aim of opening a dialogue between the public and EU leaders.
Mostra has been tasked by DG MARKT of the European Commission to set up the website and platform for the month of online debates, as well as to promote it to citizens, stakeholders and the media, to provide moderators and to coordinate the debates.
The month focuses on four themes: jobs; social rights; banks; and e-commerce. It started with the collection of policy ideas about the future of the European Single Market. Then, these ideas are debated by people in the world of EU policymaking, individuals, businesses and organisations from all across Europe. The month will be capped by a televised debate examining the most concrete and consistent solutions to the main issues directly affecting the lives of citizens and businesses all over Europe.
The project aims to allow EU leaders to better understand the situation at the citizen level and to promote initiatives and ideas that will improve the functioning of the Single Market.
