A high-level Smart Regions Conference featuring a ‘Smart Regions Exhibition’ was held by the European Commission Directorate-General for Regional and Urban Policy (REGIO) in Brussels on 1-2 June. ICF Mostra played an important organisational role in helping the ECand regions across Europe showcase their smart specialisation strategies (that is, their innovative ways of entrepreneurship and growth).
ICF Mostra was responsible for organising the two-day Conference and Exhibition at SQUARE Brussels Meeting Centre. This included plenary sessions for 500 people and participatory workshops and the exhibition space – which featured 35 regional and institutional stands, plus a large stand for the European Commission – for about 600 participants. We coordinated all event logistics, were in charge of the webstream of all sessions, and did social media promotion of the event, including creating Tweets and a Storify article on the event.
The High-Level Event was an occasion for leaders to create effective partnerships for co-investing across regions that commit to smart specialisation priorities. DG REGIO hoped to show a way forward in using the synergies between different public and private funding mechanism to support investment dynamics.
During the two-day event, many participants flocked to the Smart Regions Exhibition, taking the opportunity to network and further discuss their smart specialisation areas.
National and regional innovative strategies for EU growth continue on the agenda as additional DG REGIO’s smart specialisation events take place in several European cities in the coming months.
